Bluetooth trackers have become no-brainers for key chains and luggage, but they can also offer more unexpected uses. For example, a Bluetooth-powered tag stashed in a car's visor can shorten the search for a lost vehicle in an unfamiliar parking garage. And a tracker popped inside a Amazon package can serve as a deterrent to serial thieves.
Of course, some Bluetooth trackers are more useful than others. Apple's AirTag, for instance, relies on every iPhone in range to help locate the device and offers a larger finding grid than any other competing solution. Samsung's new SmartTag 2 and related network offer an opt-in service that may not beat Apple's, but it competes well with Google's own expanding Find Hub network.
Most Bluetooth trackers are easy to pair with your smartphone. Just press/hold a button on the device until it beeps or flashes — this puts it into pairing mode. Open your phone's app and tap Add device / + (the wording varies by app). Select the type of tracker you want to connect to and follow the on-screen instructions.
